The Selfish Giant (Summary) 

 

“The Selfish Giant” is one of the best stories of Oscar Wilde. It is an extract from the book “The Happy Prince” written by Oscar Wilde. By this story, the writer wants to the importance of children, nature, and kindness. The main character of the story is the giant and children.  

“Cruelty always repay with punishment”. In the story, the giant is punished by nature because he showed his cruelty to children. He was very haughty and disliked children. So, he placed a notice board out of the wall of his house and declared that my garden is my no children can play here. 

Spring came on time and reached everywhere except the giant’s garden. But when the giant realized his mistake then his heart also melted to see the little child. He went into the garden when the children were playing and then he saw spring came into the garden. When he went there all the children ran out of the garden due to fear. But the giant now changed by heart. He took the little boy and he took him gently on the top of the tree. Suddenly, spring comes back into the garden. All children also came and play with him in his garden.

The story tells us about the transformation from being selfish to kind and how he got the beautiful garden himself.
