Rabindra Nath Tagore is one of the best poets of India. In his works, he has written about spiritualism and immortality of the soul. “Govinda’s Disciple” is a moral poem that telling about the real meaning of spiritualism and the right ways to achieve it. In this poem Govinda playing the role of a teacher and Raghunath of a disciple. Rabindra Nath Ji trying to express his views about the relationship of teacher and disciple. By this poem he is telling about materialism creates a barrier in the way to achieve spiritualism. 

The teacher sat on a rock on the bank of the river Ganga. His disciple, Raghunath came and gifted him a pair of gold bangles. The teacher took one of the bangles and started twirling it around his finger. Suddenly, one of the costly bangles slipped from his finger and fell into the river. The disciple tried to find it but unable to get it back. When he failed to search the bangle then came back to the guru, Govinda. Govinda sits peacefully there. Disciple asked the guru that where the bangle had fallen. The Guru threw them another bangle into the exact place in the river where the former bangle had fallen so that he got the former bangle also.

It shows how materialism creates a barrier in the way to achieve spiritualism.
